About our Art teacher:-
Our resident art teacher Ruth Fones is passionate about art and design and teaching. She achieved a Distinction in Art Foundation studies at Newcastle College in 1998 followed by a First Class Honours Degree in Textile Design (BSc) from the University of Huddersfield in 2002. After graduating she worked as a knitwear designer for a cashmere manufacturing company based in West Yorkshire before moving on to setting up her own label of sustainable knitwear Snood in 2006. Under this label she used reclaimed knitted fabrics to produce one-off wearable styles. Alongside this she took up a Senior Lecturer post teaching in the Textiles Department at the University of Huddersfield where her passion for teaching grew. She taught knitted textiles specifically as well as a wide range of Visual Studies and Craft techniques. She moved in to a full time role in 2008. She has a Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE) and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). She left to have a family in 2012 but rekindled her passion for art teaching in 2015, taking over the reins in our long established art classes.
Our classes cater for a variety of abilities in a relaxed and open atmosphere. Whether you are a total beginner and want to learn how to draw or paint as a novice, or you have some experience but want to broaden your techniques and approach to art, or you just want to come and socialise and draw, paint and share ideas alongside other enthusiastic people, we're sure you'll enjoy our welcoming classes with our enthusiastic and approachable teacher, and there’s always a cup of tea and a biscuit on hand for those moments of artists block!
